Encouraging Workforce Development in our Community
In an effort to enhance and build a trained workforce for Homer’s growing marine industry, HMTA partners with the Kenai Peninsula College, Homer High School, Homer Kachemak Bay Rotary and the Aleutian Harvester Memorial Trust Fund to support and train individuals seeking to further their education and skill set in the marine trades.
HMTA sponsors a $1,000 scholarship each spring as well as tuition reimbursement for the Kachemak Bay Campus’ own Marine Technology Series where several MMC certification courses are offered, including the 100-Ton Masters License and Able Bodied Seaman.
In addition to the scholarships, select member business professionals participate as instructors in the KPC courses as well as the Focus on Learning (FOL) classes as part of the Homer High School curriculum.
Our goal is to be an industry resource for the health and growth of our community and help our community members find the satisfying high earning careers they want!
